Moms Talk: The Sex Talk
It's inevitable, so take a look at how your peers handled, or plan to handle, "the birds and the bees" discussion.

It's something parents of pre-teens think about, but only reluctantly.
No one wants to think about their kid growing up. We'd keep them 7 or 8 forever if we could, right?
At the top of the things we don't like to think about on the our-kid-is-growing-up-too-fast list is sex. This is a difficult thing to accept for all parents, but particularly for fathers of daughters—heck, as the father of a soon-to-be 8-year-old girl, I don't even want to think about the fact my daughter will be going on her first date six, seven (God willing) years from now.

- What is the right age to start talking to kids about sex? Do you think it's best to beat the schools to it?
- How do you broach the subject? Who handled, or will handle, it in your household—mom or dad, or both? Should dads talk to boys and moms to girls?
- How much information do you give them? Talk about this in terms of the child's age.
