More Than 800 New COVID-19 Cases In Camden County This Week

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Camden County and New Jersey have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for the county?

As of Friday, there have been 53,406 coronavirus cases and 1,251 coronavirus-related deaths in Camden County since the pandemic began in March 2020.

This is an increase of 813 cases and six deaths from last week, when there were 52,593 coronavirus cases and 1,245 coronavirus-related deaths in Camden County.

Officials continue to monitor the delta variant, which accounted for more than 96 percent of coronavirus cases in New Jersey over the last four-weeks, according to data provided by the state department of health.

Camden County has "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

“As we head into fall there is plenty of reason to be concerned that these trends will continue heading in the wrong direction,” Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. said. “The Commissioner Board and the Department of Health are urging, as strongly as possible, that all unvaccinated residents get their shot.”

As of Friday, 323,682 Camden County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 292,341 are fully vaccinated. More information regarding vaccination rates throughout the county and available on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard at covid19.nj.gov.

The county Health Department is continuing to closely track new cases of COVID-19 and information regarding the prevalence of the Delta variant. New cases are often reassigned to other municipalities over the course of an investigation.
