Nearly 800 New COVID-19 Cases In Camden County This Week

The variant accounted for nearly all of NJ cases over a four-week period. Here's a look at the impact it's having on Camden County.

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — Camden County and New Jersey have seen an uptick in coronavirus cases. But what does that mean for the county?

As of Friday, there have been 54,195 coronavirus cases and 1,257 coronavirus-related deaths in Camden County since the pandemic began in March 2020.

This is an increase of 789 cases and six deaths from last week, when there were 53,406 coronavirus cases and 1,251 coronavirus-related deaths in Camden County.

Officials continue to monitor the delta variant, which accounted for more than 98 percent of coronavirus cases in New Jersey over the last four-weeks, according to data provided by the state department of health.

Camden County has "moderate" COVID activity, according to New Jersey's latest weekly report. The determination is based on metrics such as case rate, positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-like illnesses.

“As President Biden said, the unvaccinated minority is causing a lot of damage and their refusal has cost us all,” Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli Jr. said. “The Commissioner Board and the Department of Health are urging, as strongly as possible, that all unvaccinated residents get their shot.”

As of Friday, 327,163 Camden County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 295,257 are fully vaccinated. More information regarding vaccination rates throughout the county and available on the state’s COVID-19 dashboard at covid19.nj.gov.

The county Health Department is continuing to closely track new cases of COVID-19 and information regarding the prevalence of the Delta variant. New cases are often reassigned to other municipalities over the course of an investigation.
