New Camden County Health Hub Will Include COVID-19 Boosters

Camden County's new health hub will be a one-stop shop for COVID-19 vaccines, boosters, and third doses, flu vaccines and COVID-19 testing.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Camden County officials are opening a one-stop shop for COVID-19 vaccines, boosters, and third doses, flu vaccines and COVID-19 testing in Gloucester Township Thursday, officials announced.

The Camden County Health Hub opens at the Camden County College-Blackwood campus on Thursday, county officials said on Wednesday. Camden County is opening it in partnership with Cooper University Health Care and the Rutgers-Camden School of Nursing.

“For all of the outstanding work our public health team did last spring, vaccinating more than 100,000 people, the pandemic is not over and continues to evolve,” Camden County Commissioner Director Louis Cappelli, Jr. said. “In our fight against Delta, and to ensure that boosters can get out into the community to aid frontline workers, the immunocompromised and senior citizens, this hub will provide everything in one place. I also want to thank our healthcare team- this is the perfect example of a public-private partnership delivering an essential service for the people of Camden County.”

The site will be set up in the vast parking lot on campus using pop-up hospital pods, while residents are seen from their cars. Depending on the patient need, public health professionals will have multiple drive-thru lines for residents to use regarding their need for the visit to the new outdoor complex.

The county is also preparing to provide vaccines to children ages 5-and-up should the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approve the Pfizer vaccine for that age group in the coming weeks, officials said. This cross-section of the population will also drive demand for more first doses of the vaccines.

The first of two phases of the hub opens Thursday. Health officials will administer first, second and third doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, and the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Pfizer booster shots will also be available for those who are eligible.

It will be open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays. These days and times are subject to change based on the demand from the community. Individuals can register for an appointment at www.CamdenCountyVaccine.com. Vaccinations and COVID-19 testing are being distributed by appointment only.

The second phase opens Nov. 1, and it will include COVID-19 testing and other amenities. Camden County College's Blackwood Campus is located at 200 College Drive in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township.

“To be clear, the Camden County Department of Health and its partners are anticipating booster approvals for other vaccines in the near future, but the only booster available to the public is for Pfizer, which can only be given to recipients who have had their first two doses,” officials said in the announcement.

As of Wednesday, 355,526 Camden County residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 308,748 are fully vaccinated and 18,896 have received a third dose.

As of Wednesday, there have been 58,281 coronavirus cases and 1,296 coronavirus-related deaths in Camden County since the pandemic began in March 2020, according to the Camden County Health Department.

“Unfortunately, we are continuing to see the Delta variant maintain its grip on our region from cases to hospitalizations,” Cappelli said. “If you haven’t done so already, please get vaccinated now.”

The Camden County Health Department is continuing to closely track new cases of COVID-19 and information regarding the prevalence of the Delta variant. New cases are often reassigned to other municipalities over the course of an investigation.
