NJ Man Approached Cop With Machete Before Fatal Shooting: AG
The Attorney General's Office has identified the Millville man shot in a police-involved shooting over the weekend.
MILLVILLE, NJ — A man who was killed in a police-involved shooting outside his South Jersey home was reportedly approaching a police officer while holding a machete at the time of the shooting, the Attorney General’s Office announced on Tuesday.
Authorities also officially identified the victim as Daniel Ackley, 33 of Millville, in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
Police were responding to an emergency at the home on Burns Road in Millville just before 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 when they encountered Ackley outside his home, according to the Attorney General’s Office.

Ackley was holding a machete, according to authorities. As Ackley moved toward the officers, one of the officers shot him, according to authorities.
Officers and emergency medical personnel gave Ackley first aid before he was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital. He was pronounced deceased at 10:56 p.m., according to authorities. Read more here: Man Killed In Police Shooting Outside NJ Home: Authorities

No further information was released Tuesday afternoon.
His online obituary describes Ackley as an Iraq War Army Veteran who graduated from Millville High School. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking, playing video games, military history, and volunteering at the Port Norris Baptist Church of which he was a lifetime member. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
The Attorney General's Office is conducting the investigation under a statute that requires it to investigate any death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer's official capacity or while the decedent is in custody, and which establishes clear standards and procedures for conducting such investigations.
