Police to Host Child-Safety Seat Check

The local event is being held to mark National Child Passenger Safety Week.

The township Police Department and Safe Kids of Southern New Jersey will host a child-safety seat check this Friday in conjunction with National Child Passenger Safety Week.

Not sure your child's safety seat is hooked up in the backseat as well as it could be? Don't risk it—let the experts do it right!

The free event will run from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Malvern School, located at 2920 New Brooklyn Erial Rd., Sicklerville. Appointments are not necessary.

A properly installed child safety seat reduces fatal injury in passenger cars by 71 percent for infants less than 1 year old and by 54 percent for toddlers 1 to 4 years of age. For children 4 to 7 years of age, booster seats have shown to reduce injury risk by 59 percent compared to safety belts alone.

A study conducted in six states looking at more than 3,400 child-safety seats showed 73 percent had at least one critical misuse, according to police.

If you can't make it to Friday's event, call the police department to schedule an appointment with an officer who is a certified child-safety seat technician.
