Running Car Stolen At Convenience Store In Gloucester Twp.

Over the years, numerous cars have been stolen while left running outside of township convenience stores, police said.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A vehicle left running in a convenience store parking lot was stolen this week, according to Gloucester Township police.

Local authorities are also investigating the attempted theft of a vehicle, which was also left running at a local convenience store this week.

It's unclear where or when each incident happened. Police withheld additional information with the investigations still underway.

But the Gloucester Township Police Department warned the public about leaving their cars running and unoccupied.

Over the years, township police have investigated several car thefts that happened in front of convenience stores. All were left running and unattended, police said.

"Criminals looking for a quick, free ride are waiting for the opportunity to steal your vehicle," the GTPD said on social media. "I only ran into the store for a minute" is a poor, common excuse that victims of stolen vehicles have told our Gloucester Township Police Officers."

Police discouraged drivers from leaving vehicles running and unattended unless they have an auto start that doesn't allow a thief to drive off with it.

You can also get fined for leaving your empty car running, per a state law designed to prevent vehicle thefts.
