Sicklerville Man Admits To Tax Fraud For A 2nd Time
He was imprisoned for tax fraud committed while he ran a business a few years ago.
SICKLERVILLE, NJ — A few years ago, a business owner from Sicklerville went to prison for tax fraud. He pleaded guilty Tuesday to doing the same before and after his time in custody.
In 2018, Chung "Alex" Lam admitted to not paying IRS payroll taxes while he ran a staffing company for temporary employment. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison, which he served from 2019-20.
Before going to prison and after getting released, Lam conspired with the owners of different temp agencies to defraud the IRS, authorities said.

He got in legal trouble again for conspiring with other businesses to do the same.
Between 2018 and 2023, Lam received checks that the staffing agencies received for offering temporary employees to different businesses, officials said. The agencies were responsible for compensating their employees and submitting payroll taxes.

During that time, Lam brought more than $4 million in checks to a commercial check casher. Lam pocketed some of the money, while the rest was given to the temp agencies to pay their employees in cash.
The conspiracy caused a tax loss of $628,351.
Lam, 46, pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiring to defraud the United States. It carries up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
Sentencing is set for June 16.
