Street Hockey Players Get New Rinks

The Gloucester Township Hockey Alliance officially opened an expanded complex Saturday.

The 630 kids in the Gloucester Township Hockey Alliance have new rinks to play on after an expanded complex officially opened Saturday morning.

The 20-year-old league had only one rink to use for its street hockey programs, which serves players age 4 to 16. Getting the new rinks was a 10-year process of requesting the project before the Gloucester Township Council, according to Chris Baselice, public relations liaison for the alliance.

The council approved more than $2 million in funding last year to expand the Marge Martin Lakeland complex located off of Woodbury-Turnersville Road. Construction took about eight months.

Saturday’s opening, which took place in a rainstorm that plagued the area all morning, coincided with the South Jersey Cup, a tournament hosted by the Gloucester Township Hockey Alliance.
