Eagles Cut Timber Creek Alumnus Tyreek Maddox-Williams From 53-Man Roster
The linebacker, who intercepted a pass in last week's preseason game, still has a chance to make the team, or another, in some capacity.

PHILADELPHIA — With NFL teams required to trim their rosters Tuesday, the Eagles released former Timber Creek football star Tyreek Maddox-Williams.
The Birds signed Maddox-Williams on Aug. 18, with one preseason game remaining. In last Thursday's preseason match against the Colts, the linebacker recorded seven tackles and an interception, returning the pick 42 yards.

Maddox-Williams hasn't appeared in an NFL game outside of preseason action since entering the league last year. The Los Angeles Chargers signed Maddox-Williams to the practice squad last summer, but the team waived him July 28 — weeks before the Eagles signed him.
Tuesday marked the deadline for NFL teams to reduce their rosters from 90 players to 53. The Eagles cut dozens of athletes, including Maddox-Williams. But he could still make the roster in some capacity or land with another NFL team.

Since Maddox-Williams has fewer than four accrued pro seasons, his release from the Eagles placed him on waivers. Teams have until noon Wednesday to submit claims to acquire him and others currently on the waiver wire. If a team doesn't claim him, the Timber Creek Regional High School becomes an unrestricted free agent.
With rosters trimmed, NFL teams — including the Eagles — will begin to form their practice squads. Practice-squad players can make the game-day roster three times during the regular season — they must be signed to the 53-man roster to participate in more matches. They're paid weekly and can get released anytime during the season, but making the practice squad provides gridiron hopefuls with more opportunities to participate in meaningful games.
After helping Timber Creek to a South Jersey Group IV state title, Maddox-Williams competed for Rutgers University from 2016-21. With the Scarlet Knights, Maddox-Williams made 206 tackles in 52 games. He also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in all five years.
Coming off a Super Bowl defeat to the Chiefs, the Eagles will open the season Sept. 10 against the Patriots. Fans in South Jersey can catch Brandon Graham and Reed Blankenship on Saturday during Deptford Mall's Family Football Fest.
