Police to Patrol Township Parks on a Segway
The one-person vehicles can cover ground three times faster than walking.

Township police are set to introduce their latest crime fighting vehicle Thursday at the township's annual Economic Breakfast.
Police will patrol parks and other pedestian areas with a Segway vehicle. The two-wheeled, gyro-scooter covers ground three times faster than walking, police say.
"The Segway patroller will be used in addition to our low speed vehicles to enhance the patrol of our park and in addtion to our bicylce patrol officers," a police statement said. "The Segway patroller will also be used in neighborhoods, for such assignments as encouraging residents to sign up for our community notification system."

The cost of the vehicle was not immediately reported.
