Fugitive Captured After Standoff: Police

Yuuki Nemoto surrendered after a 90-minute standoff Monday night, police said.

A 26-year-old township man is in custody following a tense, nearly two-hour standoff with police Monday night. He had barricaded himself in a house in the 100 block of Adrienne Avenue in the Blackwood Estates development before a SWAT team broke open the door and he surrendered.

Yuuki Nemoto, 26, was wanted in Gloucester County for allegedly stealing jewelry from a store in Deptford where he worked and then not showing up for a court date. Nemoto was featured in a story on this site yesterday.

Police arrived at his home at 10:38 p.m. Monday. Officers saw Nemoto inside, but he wouldn't respond to phone calls. A loudspeaker was deployed to convince him to surrender, but he did not, accoring to police.

Officers established a perimeter around the house but Nemoto still refused to communicate. Crisis negotiators attempted to contact Nemoto for approximately 90 minutes, without a response.

The SWAT officers then breached the front door and Nemoto immediately answered the phone. He was then arrested without further incident. No injuries were sustained by him or any of the officers.
