Two New Police Officers Take Oath

The township's newest police officers both come from Trenton PD.

Mayor David Mayer swore in Gloucester Township's two newest police officers during Monday night's Township Council meeting.

Patrolmen Alexander Maldonado and Jeremie McCall came to the Gloucester Township Police Department after they were laid off the Trenton police force.

Trenton cut about 105 police jobs for budgetary reasons last September, and only rehired 18 of the 105 officers after receiving federal assistance.

Maldonado and McCall were selected for the two positions from the statewide eligibility list.

Police Chief W. Harry Earle presented both new officers with framed copies of the Gloucester Township Police Department mission statement and challenge coins after they took their oaths.

Earle noted those items are usually given to new officers upon completion of academy training.

But Maldonado and McCall graduated from Trenton Police Academy in June 2008.

In 2010, the Trenton Police Department recognized Maldonado with its Exemplary Performance Recognition Award.

"What I remember from early on in the process, when the detectives were doing your background investigation, was that you made a comment to the detective—early on, before anything had happened," Earle recalled just prior to Maldonado taking the oath of office from Mayer. "You said that your young daughter, Gabriela, said, 'Daddy, why don't you wear a uniform anymore?' Well, you can wear a uniform and I'm proud to say that you're wearing a Gloucester Township Police uniform."

Maldonado and McCall began working as Gloucester Township police officers about a month ago, Earle noted.
