GLASSBORO, NJ — Rowan University is investigating a racial slur scrawled across the dorm room door of a student found over the weekend, officials said.

"It’s deeply troubling whenever one of our own faces an ugly, racist act on campus," said Ali A. Houshmand, the university's president. "It goes against everything we are striving for here at Rowan, and it will not be tolerated."

The incident is under active investigation, and Houshmand said those responsible will be "subject to disciplinary and/or legal action."
