Valleybrook Fire Blamed on Smoking

Blame it on the tobacco.

Police say a fire at 88 La Costa Dr., in the Valleybrook development in Blackwood, last Thursday evening was the result of careless smoking.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home's attic and second floor.

Firefighters cracked holes in the roof to 86 La Costa Dr. to check for so-called hot spots in the walls between the two units, but the home was otherwise undamaged by the fire.

No one was injured in the blaze, which took firefighters about a half-hour to bring under control.

Police said three people staying at 88 La Costa Dr. were provided shelter by the Camden County chapter of the American Red Cross following the fire.
