WATCH: Escaped Horse Takes Police On Chase In South Jersey Neighborhood
One officer 'officially confirmed what science has suspected for years ... he cannot outrun a horse.'

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A loose horse explored a residential neighborhood and outpaced an officer before getting captured Friday in Gloucester County, police said.
The horse was reported canvassing the Hunter Woods neighborhood of Monroe Township just before 8 a.m. Police found the animal grazing in a resident's lawn. But it ran away, eluding an officer running after it.
"Ofc. O'Lano officially confirmed what science has suspected for years," said the Monroe Township Police Department, "he cannot outrun a horse."

Thanks to some teamwork, and officers' continued sprinting, the horse was safely secured and returned without incident, police said.
Police identified the horse as Seabiscuit to protect its true identity.

Monroe Township has multiple horse farms.
"In all seriousness, we appreciate our officers efforts and those that assisted," police said on social media. "These types of calls are not entirely uncommon for us and we do our best to protect all of our animal friends that are a part of this community."

With so many farms in Gloucester County, it's not unusual for animals to escape. Notable incidents in the last couple years include a hog that police corralled in Deptford and a 200-pound pot-bellied pig that entered an age-restricted (and species-restricted) community in Washington Township.
