Gov. Murphy: 284 New NJ Coronavirus Cases, 5 More Deaths

NEW JERSEY – Gov. Phil Murphy, speaking during a Tuesday news conference, announced that New Jersey has 284 new coronavirus cases and five more deaths (you can watch it here, below).
The update comes as the number of total cases rose to 194,667 and 14,213 confirmed deaths were reported. Read more: NJ Coronavirus, School Reopen Updates: Here's What You Need To Know
Murphy reported that the reopening of indoor dining and movie theaters, as well as the Labor Day weekend, led to "very few reported cases of knucklehead behavior and this gives us all some hope in the days ahead."

Murphy said the state's positivity rate remains among the lowest in the nation, falling to 1.83. The transmission rate, however, is higher than the 1.0 mark that's considered too high, rising to 1.1.
That means that every person with the coronavirus is transmitting the disease to at least one other individual.

Murphy said he believes the number is higher because there were a big number of tests and positive test numbers reported five to 15 days ago. During that period of time, New Jersey's new case total rose above 400 per day.
