$45K Worth Of iPads Stolen From M&M Factory By Employee: Cops

Flanders man tried pawning off electronic equipment in Hackettstown, police report.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A Morris County man working for Mars North America in Hackettstown was busted recently for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars worth of goods from his employer and trying to pawn off electronic equipment.

On March 31, the Hackettstown Detective Bureau discovered a suspicious transaction of 13 iPads sold at the Gold Mine pawn shop on Main Street in town, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

An investigation determined Thomas Cefola, 37, of Flanders, an employee of Mars Chocolate North America, stole a total of 60 Apple iPads with service plans (value of $750.04) from the company’s headquarters on High Street in Hackettstown between Oct. 10, 2014 and March 31, 2016, Tynan said.

The total value of the stolen goods came to $45,002.40, Tynan said.

Cefola then sold the iPads at the Gold Mine for personal gain, Tynan said, in addition to two Apple iPad touch 32GB players ($281.68 each) that belonged to the company.

On May 19, Cefola was charged with two counts of theft of moveable property and released with a court date.
