Arrest Made In Hackettstown Man's Murder

Man from Orange allegedly shot and killed 49-year-old Hackettstown resident in Newark last month, prosecutor says.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A man from Orange, New Jersey has been arrested in connection with the killing of a Hackettstown man in Newark, Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray announced.

Alphonso Richardson, 30, was arrested Thursday and charged with the murder of Gerard Jones, 49, of Hackettstown, Murray said.

Jones was shot and killed April 26 around 12:30 a.m. in the area of Poinier Street in Newark, authorities said. Murray believes there may have been a dispute prior to the shooting.

Richardson was taken to Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $750,000 bail and will have his first court appearance on May 10.
