Cops: Woman Threatened, Restrained, Dragged Down Stairs

Asbury Park man accused of threatening to kill woman, holding her captive in Mountain Avenue home.

An Asbury Park man was charged with threatening to kill a woman who was being held against her will, Hackettstown Police said.

Maurice Breland, 22, was charged with resisting arrest, threatening to kill, criminal restraint, simple assault and false imprisonment.

After responding to a domestic violence complaint at a Mountain Avenue residence Wednesday afternoon at about 5:30 p.m., officers learned Breland threatened to kill the victim while sitting on her chest and kneeling on her arms while in one of the home's bedrooms, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

Breland also dragged the victim by the feet halfway down the stairs, Tynan said.

Tynan said Breland fled when they spotted him, but he was caught in the area of Mountain Avenue and Shelley Drive.

Breland is being held on $10,000 bond at the Warren County Correctional Facility in Belvidere.
