Attempted Kidnapper Fled, Arrested In Hackettstown: PD
The man allegedly tried to kidnap someone at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A man wanted for an attempted kidnapping at the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area was arrested in Hackettstown, police said.
Jeffrey A. Mulcahy, 70, of Wayne, was arrested on Labor Day following a brief car chase in Hackettstown, police said. Mulcahy is accused of fleeing the national park after an attempted kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon earlier in the day.
Hackettstown police were alerted to Mulcahy around 5 p.m., when an off-duty firefighter spotted him on Roue 46 driving into Hackettstown. Police tried to pull him over, but Mulcahy attempted to evade police by throwing a t-shirt out of his window.

Mulcahy was eventually pulled over by police, and police say he resisted officer's orders before he was eventually arrested.
Mulcahy was charged by Hackettstown Police with third-degree eluding, hindering, disorderly conduct, failure to wear seat belt, driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath test, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, throwing debris from motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, failure to pull over for a motor vehicle, reckless driving and speeding.

He was turned over to the United States Park Police. It's unclear if he faces any charges from them.
A spokesperson at the National Parks Service did not respond to Patch's request for more information on the incident in the park.
