Burglars Stole Copper Pipes From Hackettstown Home, Cops Say

Two charged with criminal mischief, theft.

A pair of alleged burglars made off with copper and brass piping and tableware after breaking into a Birch Lane home on July 14, Hackettstown police said.

Thomas Burnett, 25, of Hopatcong, and Jonathan Hummer, 27, of Hackettstown, were both charged with burglary, criminal trespassing, theft and criminal mischief, according to Sgt. Darren Tynan.

Police responded to Birch Lane around 5:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle parked behind the home, Tynan said. Officers saw the car leave the scene and stopped the car.

After an investigation, police determined Burnett and Hummer to be responsible for the thefts, Tynan said.

Both were arrested and transported to the police station. They were later released with dates to appear in court.
