Hackettstown Library Reopening After Mold Was Found

The main level will reopen, but the lower level of the library will remain closed until further notice.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — The main level Hackettstown Library will reopen on Wednesday after a mold condition temporarily closed it, town clerk Bill Kuster told Patch.

The lower level, which houses the children's library, will remain closed until further notice, Kuster said. Mold was found in the service stairway on Oct. 1, and air quality testing showed particulates in the air of the lower level. Out of an abundance of caution, the entire library was closed Friday at noon, Kuster said.

Air quality testing showed that the upper level was fine, so that will reopen on Wednesday, Kuster said. The lower level will need to be remediated; a contractor will be hired for that job, Kuster said. No timeline is in place for the reopening of the lower level.

Kuster said the mold appeared to stem from a leak in the roof. That leak has since been patched; none of the books or other library equipment was damaged by either the leak or the mold.
