Hackettstown Man Captured At Canadian Border After Beating Victim To Death: Prosecutor

Incident occurred Tuesday in Warren County, authorities report.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A Hackettstown man has been captured after allegedly pummeling another man to death in Warren County on Tuesday, Prosecutor Richard Burke announced.

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, New Jersey State Troopers responded to a home in White Township and found John Ranallo unresponsive, Burke said. Ranallo was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter.

An investigation was launched and authorities learned Ranallo and a friend responded to the home to pick up his daughter, Burke said. After Ranallo arrived, Steven Segarra, 37, motioned to the victim to exit the home. After a brief discussion, Segarra allegedly struck the victim in the face, which sent him to the ground. Segarra then mounted Ranallo, Burke said, and repeatedly hit him in the head and face.

After the attack, Ranallo re-entered the home where he collapsed and never regained consciousness.

Segarra and a female, Charity Bucey, fled the scene in an Acura SUV. The duo were caught at the Canadian border in New York State, Burke said. Segarra’s listed address is Mansfield Village in Hackettstown, the prosecutor’s office said.
