Lucky Ducks! 9 Ducklings Rescued From Hackettstown Storm Drain

Police, DPW workers help free trapped animals Monday morning.

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Thanks to local police and department of public works members, there were some lucky ducks in Hackettstown Monday morning.

Just after 10:30 a.m. Monday Hackettstown Police responded to the intersection of Route 46 and West Moore Street for a report of ducklings that were trapped in a storm drain, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

When police arrived they found nine ducklings in a storm drain with the mother duck and two more ducklings standing nearby, Tynan said. The ducklings had crossed West Moore Street, and as some walked over the storm drain grate, nine fell down below.

Police and DPW workers were able to remove the storm drain grate and rescue the ducklings, reuniting them with their mother and siblings, Tynan said.

As they left the area, one of the ducklings fell into yet another storm drain and required rescuing again before the family left the area as a group. None of the animals appeared to be injured, Tynan said, and all were just ducky.
