Man on Walk Across America Seen Near Hackettstown

Benjamin Timoner is walking 2,800 miles to raise money for a cure for pancreatic cancer.

Benjamin Timoner is taking a walk. An extremely long walk.

The New Mexico man set out on a journey across the country by foot in an effort to raise awareness and money for a cure for pancreatic cancer, according to The Star Ledger. And on Tuesday, about five months since he left his starting point in Santa Monica, Calif., Timoner was seen walking near Hackettstown on Route 46.

By Friday, Timoner will cross the George Washington Bridge and he plans to finish up his 2,800-mile walk in Bethpage, NY, sometime next week, the Ledger reported. But his walk will not end there. Timoner is also planning on walking his return route through the south, he said on his website, BJWalksAmerica.

In total, he hopes to walk 5,800 miles this year. On average, Timoner has been walking about 20 miles per day.

Timoner lost his father, Bertram Timoner, to pancreatic cancer when he was just five years old. Bertram Timoner was 41 when he died.

As of May 30, Benjamin Timoner had raised more than $20,000, according to his website. Money raised will benefit the Lustgarten Foundation.

This is not the first time Timoner has walked across the country. In 2011, he also took a lengthy walk, but this time "I know that I can do better," he said.

Timoner has promised his followers that he will do his best to arrive at the towns and markers he has set on his course and published on his website.

"I will do everything in my power to be at (or near) the location listed by dusk of that date," he wrote.
