Driver Hit By Semi, Killed After Car Breaks Down On I-80: State Police

A 27-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a semi truck near the Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridge on Monday. Her car was disabled.

HARDWICK TOWNSHIP, NJ — State police said a driver died Monday morning near the Pennsylvania border, after a semi truck hit her when she was standing outside her disabled car on I-80 East.

The crash took place around 8:21 a.m. in Hardwick Township, Warren County — less than half a mile away from the Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridge, said a New Jersey State Police spokesman.

A disabled Honda passenger vehicle was parked on the right shoulder, police said. Near milepost 0.3, an eastbound Volvo tractor-trailer came onto the shoulder and hit the woman, who was outside the car.

Police said the woman, 27-year-old Valdaishi Simpkins of Irvington, sustained fatal injuries.

The accident remains under investigation and there is no additional information available as of Tuesday morning.
