Woman Returns To Bagelry After Taking Tip Jar:Hackettstown Police

Hackettstown Police charged Wanda E. Stevens, 71 with theft of a tip jar, after she was back to buy food at the same bagel shop on Friday.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — Hot Bagels Abroad had their tip jar disappear on Thursday morning and the person who Hackettstown Police say took it, returned to the store on Friday, where they met up with her.

Sgt. Darren Tynan, a spokesperson for the Hackettstown Police Department, said in a news release on Friday, Hackettstown Police officers first headed to Hot Bagels Abroad on Mountain Avenue late Thursday morning, after employees said a then-unknown woman took their tip jar.

Stevens, 71, of Allamuchy, was charged with theft after Hackettstown Police connected with her when the bagel shop called them on Friday to tell police that Stevens had returned to make a purchase.

Tynan said police have since recovered a portion of the missing tip jar money.
