2-Alarm Fire on Prospect Road in Haddonfield

A two-alarm fire Sunday in the 100 block of Prospect Road in Haddonfield was brought under control in 30 minutes with no reported injuries, said Joe Riggs, chief of Haddon Fire Co. No. 1.

Flames were shooting out of the two-story, dwelling when firefighters arrived. Responders were there minutes after the blaze was reported at 5:56 p.m. The fire was tamed and brought under control at 6:31 p.m., Riggs said.

There was significant damage to the home, but no injuries. Firefighters from Cherry Hill and Haddon Heights also responded.

Riggs added:

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions inside the home while attempting to extinguish the blaze and found that the fire had extended from the back porch area, up the back wall of the home and had entered into the attic space on the third level. The fire was extinguished using Haddonfield's compressed air foam extinguishing system, which uses a combination of water, air and foam to quickly extinguish fires.

There was extensive fire damage to the exterior siding of the home and the entire attic area. In addition, the extreme heat from the fire caused the vinyl siding on the adjacent neighbors home to melt. That home was also soaked down  to keep it from catching fire.

The property owners were not home at the time of the fire, however, their 2 dogs had to be rescued. Both dogs were located and carried out of the burning home by firefighters. Local neighbors cared for the dogs until the homeowners arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
