MOUNT EPHRAIM, NJ — A card skimmer was found in a 7-Eleven store in Mount Ephraim on Wednesday, leaving recent customers at risk of identity fraud, police said.

A store employee discovered it at the 7-Eleven on 521 W Kings Hwy., police said. It was attached to the credit card machine at the store's register.

The device, which officers collected as evidence, was designed to closely resemble the store's actual machine, police said. (See the photos above.)

About Card Skimming

Card skimmers are inconspicuous tool used to steal credit, debit and EBT card information. The devices are illegally placed on ATMs, fuel pumps and other locations to capture personal data and cardholders' PINs. Offenders use that information to create fake cards and then steal from victims' accounts.

Skimming can involve the use of pinhole cameras, which record a customer entering their PIN.

Another card skimmer was found earlier this month at a Pennsauken grocery store.
