Design Your Own Dessert at New Yogo Factory

I scream, you scream, we all scream for … frozen yogurt?

Anyone in the mood for a creamy treat has a new spot to check out in Haddon Township. Yogo Factory opened its doors Wednesday afternoon as the area’s newest frozen yogurt shop.

Yogo Factory is a weigh and pay shop. Customers choose from a rotation of 16 flavors of frozen yogurt or sorbet—selections run the gamut from cheesecake and cake batter to fruit and tart flavors—and 100 toppings, from the traditional candy to pretzel pieces, fresh fruit and an array of syrups. Each creation is weighed for the final price.

Yogo Factory moved into the Haddon Shops shopping center on Haddon Avenue, taking over part of the storefront left empty for years after Wow Video closed.

When he searched locally for a spot to open a Yogo Factory, CEO and President Brian Petruzzi wanted a location that could handle a lot of foot traffic—an expected 2,000 customers daily—and offered parking. Petruzzi looked at both Haddonfield and Collingswood, but the boroughs lost out to Haddon Township because of parking issues. Yogo Factory’s shopping center has its own free parking lot, and there is metered street parking on Haddon Avenue.

“We’re centrally located, so we want to serve all of these communities, from Haddon Township to Collingswood and Haddonfield,” Petruzzi said.

With a steady stream of customers soon after the grand opening at 1 p.m. March 7, Petruzzi hopes Yogo Factory becomes a place for the community to gather.

“We don’t want people to rush in and rush out. This is a place to hang out,” he said. “We offer a family environment.”

The store features a long bar with seating, booths that can accommodate groups and outdoor seating. Petruzzi also plans to add benches along the street, along with other aesthetic improvements, such as new greenery along the sidewalk and new signage coming soon.

Petruzzi isn’t new to the frozen yogurt game—South Jersey and Pennsylvania will boast 16 Yogo Factory spots, with locations in , Rio Grande, Somers Point, Ocean City, Egg Harbor, Swedesboro, Sicklerville and Somerdale among the locations already open or soon to open.

Nor is the CEO new to small business operations in general. The Stockton College alumnus double majored in business and biology and has run his own businesses since age 19. His ventures include a graphic design firm, tanning salons and a movie rental shop.

All told, Petruzzi estimates Yogo Factory will create 150 jobs in New Jersey. He employs about 20 people at the Haddon Township location.

With thousands of combinations possible, Petruzzi has a recommendation for anyone who stops in to try to the yogurt.

“I like tart flavors, so I usually pick tart blueberry and fresh fruit, then put some blueberry or acai syrup on it,” he said.
