Gregory Yurkow, Youth Rowing Coach, Dies at 25

Services will be on Tuesday for the Haddonfield Memorial High School and Rutgers University alumnus.

Gregory Yurkow, 25, of Haddonfield, died suddenly Monday.

He was a recent graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick and Haddonfield Memorial High School, and an avid rower and youth crew coach. He was currently working as a crew coach at the Wilmington Youth Rowing Association.

"At Rutgers, Greg was a three-year member of the Varsity Heavyweight 8, competing annually as a member of the EARC racing in both Eastern Sprints and in the IRA," according to the Wilmington Youth Rowing Association. "In 2008, he was a member of the Under-23, US National Team as 2 seat of the 4+ racing in Brandenburg, Germany. He placed 5th in the Grand Final.

"In 2008 though 2009, while training and competing with Penn AC in Philadelphia, Greg was a multi-event winner at both the Navy Day Regatta and Independence Day Regatta champion, and in 2009 was a member of the Penn AC 8+ that won the Championship Men's 8 at the Canadian Henley Regatta. Also, during the summer of 2009, he competed in the Penn AC 4- which placed 3rd in the US Rowing Elite National Championship."

He is survived by his parents, Philip and the late Maryellen (Mimi) (nee Adams) of Haddonfield; brothers, John and Douglas, both of  Haddonfield; a host of aunts and uncles, Jeff  and Rosalie Hudson of Haddon Heights, Earl and Johanna Goldberg of Medford, Edward and Kathy Yurkow of Hillsboro, Steve and Patty Adams of Haddonfield, Bill and Kathleen Adams of New Market, MD, and many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation Tuesday June 11, 9 to 10:45 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 200 Windsor Ave., Haddonfield. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
