Haddonfield Swimmer Just Misses at Olympic Trials

Haddonfield’s Emily Creran journey to make the U.S. Olympic swimming team ended Saturday when 0.66 seconds separated her from qualifying for the semi-finals in the 200-meter backstroke.

Creran, a 2009 Haddonfield Memorial High School graduate and current Ohio State University student, clocked a 2:14.59 time in the race, netting her 18th place in the 186-swimmer field. The top 16 finishers moved on to the semi-finals Saturday.

Earlier in the swim trials in Omaha, NE, Creran competed in the 200-meter individual medley, coming in 52nd place with a time of 2:18.97. She also swam the 100-meter backstroke, tying for 79th place at 1:03.97.

Creran made a name for herself in both high school and college. At Haddonfield, she was state champion in the 100-meter backstroke and broke the state record in the race in 2008. She captained Haddonfield’s swim team and was named both New Jersey State Swimmer of the Year and South Jersey Swimmer of the Year, according to her Ohio State Buckeyes profile.

At Ohio State, Creran continues to amass winning times and titles. Now about to enter her senior year, she became co-captain of the university’s swimming team as a sophomore.
