A man, later identified as Roth, threw a rolled-up American flag on the sidewalk in front of the tavern, police said. The flag had a note attached, which contained a derogatory message about the bar's displayed Pride flag, according to law enforcement.
Bayer's Tavern shared a photo of the flag on Monday, which contained a taped message that says the following:

Bayer's Tavern has become a staple for the local LGBTQ community since new ownership took over in March 2024, according to Out In Jersey, a magazine that covers LGBTQ news around the state.
Despite the message, Bayer's Tavern says it will continue to publicly support the LGBTQ community.
"The hate continues but we will prevail and celebrate being our beautiful selves!!! HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE!" the business wrote on Facebook.
Bayer's Tavern is located at 500 Jersey Ave., Gloucester City.
