Man Killed In Hit-And-Run By Unknown Driver In South Jersey: Police
Investigators are trying to identify the driver after the victim was found lying dead in the roadway, authorities said.
BRIDGETON, NJ — Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run after a man was found dead Saturday night on a South Jersey roadway.
Efforts to identify a suspect remain underway as of 1 p.m. Monday.
Bridgeton police reported to East Broad Street and James D. Edwards Sr. Way around 9:25 p.m. Saturday when a person was found lying in the roadway.

The victim — Pedro Chavaz, 58, of Bridgeton — had sustained serious head and facial injuries, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown vehicle was traveling westbound on East Broad Street. Chavaz was walking eastbound along the shoulder when the vehicle struck him, police said.

It's unclear when the collision happened.
Police believe the striking vehicle's front-passenger side and windshield were damaged. But no further description of the vehicle was immediately available.
