Part Of Future Historic Highway Will Go Through Haddonfield

HADDONFIELD, NJ — Part of a future historic highway that will be called the Camden County American Revolution Trail will make its way through Haddonfield, a borough commissioner said.

Five sites in Haddonfield will likely be, chosen for the trail, Kevin Roche, the borough commissioner, also said at the Aug. 29 commissioners' meeting.

Three of the trail's sites will be ones within borough limits that were "significant to the American Revolution," according to Roche.

Those three sites will be Haddonfield's Greenfield Hall, Indian King Tavern and Guard House, he said.

The other two sites on the trail will likely be ones that were significant to Haddonfield's history during the Revolutionary War era, according to Roche.

Most likely, one of the sites will highlight the borough's Quaker roots and the other site will be significant to when Marquis de Lafayette's army marched through the borough during the Battle of Gloucester, he said.

However, the Haddonfield commissioners "didn't come to a decision on the final locations," Roche said at the Aug. 29 commissioner's meeting.

Charlene Creed, President of the Historical Society of Haddonfield, expressed her preferences on where the fourth and fifth sites should be.

"[I] would like to stick to the Uptown area because that keeps people on the route ... and not too far away from Haddonfield's main [road]," she told Roche.

Roche and Creed appeared to agree to keep their respective lines of communication open until those final two sites can be agreed upon.
