Suspicious Incidents Involving Man, School Children Under Probe In Camden Co.: Police

Multiple police departments are investigating after receiving reports of similar incidents in recent days.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — A person of interest has been identified as police investigate multiple reports of a man behaving suspiciously around school children in Haddonfield and Haddon Township, officials said Thursday.

Haddon Township police received several reports Tuesday and Wednesday of a white, middle-aged man in a black Honda Civic following students as they walked home from school.

Meanwhile, a suspicious male was seen driving in the area of Haddonfield's Elizabeth Haddon Elementary School during Wednesday's dismissal time, according to Haddonfield police.

Neither department said their cases were connected. But Haddonfield police said that similar incidents to theirs have been reported in surrounding towns.

The person involved has been identified, officials said Thursday. Police have not released the man's identity or announced any charges as of this writing.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office has been helping police in Haddonfield and Haddon Township with their respective investigations.

No other police departments in the county have alerted the prosecutor's office of any related incidents, an agency spokesperson told Patch on Thursday afternoon.

"The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office has been in communication with the Haddonfield Police Department and Haddon Township Police Department regarding reports of suspicious activity," said Lt. Andrew McNeil, a CCPO spokesperson. "We will continue to support our local partners as needed while they continue their investigation."

Police have increased their presence around schools in Haddonfield and Haddon Township.

"While there is no immediate threat to students, out of an abundance of caution, an increased police presence will continue during school arrival and dismissal through the end of the school year," Haddon Township police said in a statement. "The safety and well-being of our children remains our highest priority, and we will continue to take all necessary steps to ensure their protection."

Haddonfield police have urged anyone who sees suspicious activity in the borough to call 911 or their non-emergency line at 856-429-3000.
