Locked Vehicle Stolen In Haddonfield; It's A Vulnerable Car Model, Police Say
The vehicles are common targets because of security issues that resulted in a class-action settlement.
HADDONFIELD, NJ — A vehicle theft in Haddonfield is under investigation, police said Wednesday.
The vehicle, a 2021 Kia, was stolen overnight near the 7-Eleven at North Haddon and Ardmore Avenues.
The car had been locked, and the keys weren't inside the vehicle, police said. However, it's a type of vehicle that's been notoriously susceptible to theft.

Kia models from 2011-21 have been common theft targets because the vehicles were produced without engine immobilizers. Certain Hyundai vehicles have a similar issue.
Both companies are providing anti-theft software updates to eligible vehicles as part of a class-action settlement.

Haddonfield police recommended the following for Kia owners:
- Install a steering wheel lock.
- Check with Kia to see if you can get a free security software update.
- Use a dash-cam or parking camera system.
- Park in well-lit, secure areas whenever possible.
- Talk to your insurance provider about coverage and potential discounts for added security devices.
