Woman Found Fatally Shot Inside South Jersey Vehicle, Police Say

BRIDGETON, NJ - A Bridgeton man has been arrested in a case involving a South Jersey woman found shot to death inside a car Thursday, authorities said.

On Sept. 7, 2023, 25-year-old Shanelle Stewart of Vineland was found shot dead inside of a vehicle in the 2000 block of Wheaton Avenue in Millville, police said. Later that day, Alex Blocker, age 34, of Pine Street, Bridgeton was arrested by members of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office and Millville Police Department.

It was not immediately clear what led investigators to Blocker, though Blocker allegedly followed the victim’s vehicle before the killing, NJ.com reported, citing court documents.

Blocker also lied about where he was when Stewart was killed, the outlet reported.

Blocker has been charged with first degree murder, second degree unlawful possession of a weapon (handgun) and second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The investigation is ongoing.
