Heights HS Academic Team Back on TV This Month

The Hasbrouck Heights High School academic team will be featured on MSG Varsity's "The Challenge" quiz show.

Hasbrouck Heights High School's academic team returns to the TV screen this month taking on J.P. Stevens High School in the MSG Varsity's "The Challenge" quiz show.

The team beat out Waldwick High School last fall in round one advancing to round two in the challenge which will air Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 p.m. on Cablevision's Channel 14.

The Hasbrouck Heights High School team is represented by: Christopher Sciancalepore, Connor DiCorcia, Connor McCabe, who serves as captain, and Michael Perez. Alternate team members are Kushal Parokh and Benjamin Ker. Catherine Cassidy, assistant principal and principal Linda Simmons serve as academic advisors.

Hasbrouck Heights High School is joined by 47 other schools from New Jersey as they progress through the Regional Rounds in trying to qualify for the Tri-State Championship Playoffs.

“The Challenge” includes 192 high schools from the entire tri-state area.

The show is in its fourth season and is hosted by Jared Cotter who is also host of “MSG Varsity’s Talent Show” and a popular semi-finalist from American Idol. 

One school from each region will be crowned regional champion and will win $2,500 for their school.

The regional winners will then go on to “The Challenge” Championship where they square off in a Tri-State Showdown.

The school awarded the title of Tri-State Champion will receive $10,000 in prize money and each student participating in the final “Challenge” Championship game will receive $500.
