New Special Events Position May Be Created

Borough officials are considering creating the position of Special Events and Programs Coordinator, a new position that would become an additional responsibility for an existing borough employee.

Council persons voted 4 to 2 Tuesday night to introduce an ordinance that would affix a salary of $12,500 towards this new position. Councilman David Gonzalez and Councilwoman Pamela Link voted against the introduction.

An existing employee would be chosen to hold this title in addition to his or her responsibilities, and that person would be chosen at a later date based on recommendation from the mayor and council, explained Borough Administrator and CFO Mike Kronyak.

The ordinance introduced Tuesday was just designed to affix the compensation for the position, he explained. The $12,500 would be paid to the chosen employee in addition to his or her existing salary. 

No details were provided regarding the specific responsibilities of the position.

Council persons also voted in favor of introducing a series of ordinances that would adjust the salary and compensation for all borough employees as well as officers  which are paid a fee per session, employees who earn hourly wages and seasonal employees.

As per the ordinance, salaried employees hired prior to 2001 will receive additional compensation based on continued service -  2 percent of base salary after 3 years, 3 percent after 8 years, 4 percent after 12 years, 5 percent after 16 and 6 percent after 20 years.

It also states that employees hired after Nov. 1, 2007 must pay 1.5 percent of base salary towards the cost of health benefits.

A separate ordinance to affix salary for DPW Superintendent and DPW assistant superintendent was also introduced.
