Route 17 Northbound To Close For Rail Crossing Repairs In Lodi

Route 17 northbound is scheduled to close this weekend for railroad crossing repairs in Lodi, the state Department of Transportation said.

LODI, NJ — Route 17 northbound is scheduled to close for 24 hours this weekend to accommodate railroad crossing repairs in Lodi near the Hackensack University Medical Center, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said Tuesday.

Funded through the Federal Highway Administration, the railroad crossing repair project, the second of three over successive weekends in Lodi, will replace existing rail crossing with concrete and asphalt approaches to make the area safer.

Construction work will require full road closures and signed detours.

Route 17 northbound will be closed and detoured between the driveway to Home Depot and the exit ramp to Essex Street, Maywood and Saddle Brook. In addition, the ramp from South Summit Avenue to Route 17 northbound will be closed.

For the period of 7 p.m. Friday to 7 p.m. Saturday, the NJDOT has advised of the following detours:

  • Motorists on Route 17 northbound will be directed to stay left to take the ramp to I- 80 westbound
  • Take Exit 63 to Route 17 to Route 4
  • Turn right onto Riverview Avenue
  • Turn right onto Essex Street
  • Turn right to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound South Summit Avenue northbound detour:
  • Motorists on South Summit Avenue northbound wishing to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound will be directed to continue on Summit Avenue
  • Turn left onto Essex Street
  • Turn left to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound/Paramus South Summit Avenue southbound detour:
  • Motorists on South Summit Avenue southbound wishing to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound will be directed to turn right onto Essex Street, before the ramp from to Route 17 northbound
  • Turn left to take the ramp to Route 17 northbound/Paramus

The third railroad crossing repair project is scheduled for the following weekend and will require Route 17 southbound to close for 24 hours.
