UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect
Air Quality Index reached "unhealthy for sensitive groups" category on Tuesday.

UPDATE 9:20 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m.
The weather service predicts "showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 69. Southwest wind between 6 and 9 mph becoming calm."
The weather service predicts rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch however higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.

Earlier on Tuesday the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection issued an Air Quality Alert for Bergen County Tuesday, warning residents the state's Air Quality Index is at the “unhealthy for sensitive groups” status.
Hot temperatures across the state, combined with sunny skies and southwest winds, the DEP says, would put older adults, children and those with heart and lung conditions at greater risk from exposure to ozone.

The DEP recommended limiting outdoor activity for those groups. The alert was said to be in effect until 10 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
