1 Injured, Smoke Seen For Miles In Hillsborough Fire
Quick-thinking employee was able to drag the burning materials (which included a container of fuel) out of the building: Flagtown Fire.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A quick-thinking employee helped to stop the spread of a fire at a building in Hillsborough on Wednesday.
At around 6:30 p.m. Flagtown Fire/Rescue - Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1 was dispatched with Neshanic Fire to a fire alarm at the Kyle Conti Co.(a privately-owned construction firm) on Clawson Avenue.
Hillsborough police reported a working fire in the building.

"The incident was quickly upgraded to a district response bringing the remaining township fire companies and a first alarm which includes Rapid Intervention Companies and additional tankers. Smoke could be seen for miles while units were responding," said the fire department.

A fire was found burning outside the building with damage to the exterior and heavy smoke remained in the building.

A quick-thinking employee tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher unsuccessfully and was able to drag the burning materials (which included a container of fuel) out of the building, said the fire department.
Engine 36 arrived shortly and stretched a hose to extinguish the remaining fire. Additional fire companies opened up the exterior soffit to check for extension and worked to ventilate the building.
Firefighters from all three Hillsborough Companies, Neshanic, and North Branch operated on the scene. Additional companies were cancelled once it was determined the fire had not burned further into the roof of the building.
Hillsborough Bureau of Fire Safety is conducting an investigation. Somerset County Hazmat responded to assess the situation. Robert Wood Johnson EMS remained on scene on stand by and treated one person for minor injuries.
