The fire was knocked down after about 15 minutes and extinguished completely after 30 minutes. It caused damage to the outside of the home, but was stopped quickly, preventing further extension to the interior, said the fire department.
The family's pets were also rescued from the home.
"It is believed the fire started due to the grill being too close to the residence. There were no injuries," said Mc Carthy.
Hillsborough Fire Co. 1, 2, 3, Neshanic, Millstone Valley RIC and RWJ EMS operated on the scene.
