The event will include live music, food trucks, raffle prizes, and lawn games at Flounder Brewing Co. and Bellemara Distillery.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Pulling for a Cure, a friendly competition where teams of six compete to pull a full-size tractor across 20 yards the fastest, will take place on Sunday, June 1, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Carriage Farm in Hillsborough.
The action will take place between Flounder Brewing Co. and Bellemara Distillery and the event will include live music, food trucks, raffle prizes and lawn games.
Hosted by trustees of the NJ Metro Chapter of the National MS Society (NMSS), this new event will also celebrate the Garden State with the inclusion of various New Jersey organic farming organizations.
"We are delighted to partner with Flounder Brewing Co. and Bellemara Distillery to introduce this exciting event," said Mary Turso, Chair of the NJ Metro Chapter. "Our board is passionate about its mission to help the New Jersey MS community live their best lives while supporting game-changing research toward a cure."
The NJ Metro Chapter of the National MS Society serves more than 14,000 people living with MS in New Jersey. MS is a disease that impacts the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves, which make up the central nervous system that controls everything the body does.
The exact cause of MS is unknown; something triggers the immune system to attack the central nervous system, causing damage to the myelin, the protective layer insulating wire-like nerve fibers, that sends signals to and from the brain.
This interruption of communication signals causes unpredictable symptoms such as numbness, tingling, mood changes, memory problems, pain, fatigue, blindness and/or paralysis. Everyone’s experience with MS is different and these losses may be temporary or long-lasting.
Teams entering the competition are charged with raising $400, and there is no fee to attend as a spectator.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
- Location: Carriage Farm, 2 Clerico Lane, Hillsborough
- 12 p.m.: Team registration opens
- 1 p.m.: Opening ceremony and competition
- 3:15 p.m.: Raffle drawing
- 4 p.m.: Event concludes
