Hillsborough High Counselor Named Best In County, Township Says

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - One esteemed counselor from Hillsborough High School was recently recognized by the township and county for her dedication and service to students.

Cindy Povall, who was recently named Somerset County Counselor of the Year for 2022-2023, was honored at the May 23 Hillsborough Township Committee meeting, complete with a proclamation touting her work.

“The Somerset County School Counselors Association selects a counselor who demonstrates the following characteristics: evidence of implementation of a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and school counseling innovations,” the proclamation reads. “Further development of programs supporting students’ career, personal/social, and academic development, leadership and collaboration abilities, as well as the ability to promote equity, access to opportunities, and rigorous educational experiences is also taken into consideration.”

Povall, who has been a member of the Hillsborough School District for seven years is the current president of the New Jersey School Counselor Association, previously served as a delegate to the American School Counseling Association in July 2022 and a conference presenter at the NJSCA Annual Spring Conference and NJACAC Annual Conference.

She was also awarded the J. Barry Mascari Heart of the Counselor Award in 2023, officials said.
