Hillsborough Man Charged with Piscataway Bank Robbery
Caught after crashing getaway car on Route 18.

Matthew Janssen, 21, of Hillsborough was taken into custody and charged with robbing a TD Bank in Piscataway on July 4, after he crashed on Route 18 while trying to escape a police chase, CentralJersey.com reported.
The reports said he allegedly demanded money from a teller at knifepoint at the Stelton Road TD Bank at about 12:11 p.m. July 4.
The teller gave him about $1,500 in cash before he turned and fled the bank in a silver Acura, the report said. Police spotted him on Route 18 South in Piscataway and chased him briefly before he crashed and was taken into custody by Piscataway Detective Lt. Michael McLaughlin and detectives Joseph Reilly and Cliff Lilavois.

Janssen was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where he remains for treatment of injuries he received in the accident. He is reported to be in good condition, according to the reports.
The report says his bail was set at $250,000.
