A Hillsborough native was inducted into a prestigious honor society earlier this year.

A Hillsborough native and junior at Lycoming College was inducted into a prestigious honor society earlier this year.
Richard Matel-Galatis, a junior majoring in economics and archaeology, was inducted into the Lycoming College chapter of the Gamma Sigma Alpha, the National Greek Honor Society, on March 21. Matel-Galatis was inducted into the honor society during a ceremony in the Mary L. Welch Honors Hall on the Lycoming College campus in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He is a member of Lambda Chi Alpha.
Gamma Sigma Alpha, National Greek Academic Honor Society, was established to promote intellectual interaction between Greek students and the academic community, according to Lycoming College. The honor society is intended to promote the advancement of education among Greeks, to instill a greater spirit of cooperation among Greek students and organizations, and encourage academic excellence.

Students with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher at the start of their junior year and who are active in a Greek fraternity or sorority are eligible for induction into the honor society.
