Hillsborough Township Awarded Fifth Consecutive Workplace Safety Award

The township received a monetary award of $2,000 with the recognition.

Hillbsorough Township Deputy Mayor Greg Burchette announced the township has received its fifth consecutive award for Workplace Place Safety.

The township was awarded the Certificate of Achievement and a $2,000 award for its exceptional safety performance during 2014, according to Burchette, who is also liaison to the Department of Public Works.

“This is the fifth consecutive year the Township has qualified as Exceptional, the highest classification the Central Jersey Joint Insurance Fund has,” Burchette said in a release from the township. “Every employee at the Township plays a role in promoting good safety practices, but special recognition should be given to all of the members of both Public Works and Parks, for their contributions which resulted in the Township receiving this award again this year.”

Hillsborough Township was accepted as a member of the Central Jersey Joint Insurance Fund (CJJIF) in 2000 after submitting an application for membership. Admission into the JIF is voted on by existing member towns, and a municipality’s financial stability and insurance claims history are deciding factors in the process, according to Hillsborough Township.

“A key benefit to providing a safer workplace for all Township employees is the significant decline in on the job injuries and lost time,” Burchette said. “As noted at the recent awards ceremony, worker’s compensation claims have been reduced by 60 percent since the Township joined the CJJIF, therefore saving money for our taxpayers.”
